Kuhl Retro Hoody Jacket Review
Kuhl delivers an ultra comfy, stylish jacket that's a great fit on the trail or around town. The Retro Hoody repels rain and weather, and features a customizable fit that's great for layering.
Every once in a while, you come across a fantastic piece of clothing that immediately becomes something you can’t live without. And that’s exactly what happened the first time I tried on the Retro Hoody from Kuhl. It’s got a comfortable, casual, already-broken-in kind of feel that instantly feels like something I’ve had in my closet and loved for years.
I’ve been wearing the Retro Hoody this fall and winter, and I’ve been ultra-impressed by the jacket’s stylish look, fit and toasty warm comfort, even in the face of some pretty harsh conditions. I’ve trekked through fog, drizzle and frigid winds in this jacket, and it has kept me happy, warm, dry and on the move through it all.
Kuhl Men’s Retro Hoody: Our Review
The outer shell of the Kuhl Retro Hoody is constructed of high quality, weather repellent fabric, and it’s double stitched for durability and style. The jacket features thumb loops that keep the sleeves in place when I’m layering the hoody under a rain shell. And the jacket features elastic cuffs and a drawcord bottom hem that help form a barrier to cold wind, rain and snow.
Two zippered hand pockets and a chest pocket are lined with soft fabric, and provide tons of space to stash my hands, a wallet, phone, keys and small gear.
Double zipper tracks. Customizable fit.
Layers are the way to dress when temperatures plummet: multiple layers offer easy-to-customize warmth as the day heats up and I get active on the trail. The Retro Hoody features double front zippers that make layering a breeze… it’s easily the most layer-worthy jacket in my closet. I love the ability to switch between the two zippers, giving the jacket a slim fit if I’m using it on its own, or creating a looser fit if I’m piling layers underneath.
On the inside, the Retro Hoody features brushed fleece that’s super soft and keeps me toasty warm. The jacket’s attached hood is also fully lined with the same fleece, and the hood features a draw cord to tighten the hoody up against cold winter winds. I love the extra high collar on this jacket: it provides one more layer of defense against the wet and cold.
The jacket’s size runs true, and the fit is stylishly slim with a bit of extra room to move. I’m 6’ tall, and the men’s small provides a nice streamlined fit, with generously long sleeves. And fit-wise, I really love that Kuhl added extra length to the back of the coat, which helps keep the coat in place when I’m active or if my backpack shifts on the trail.
Kuhl Men’s Retro Hoody: Bottom Line
The Retro Hoody from Kuhl is one amazing jacket. It’s equally stylish, but technical, and extremely well designed. It’s warm, comfortable and sheds bad weather like a pro. And thanks to its casual, streamlined look, I grab this jacket for time on the trail, chilling around town and pretty much anywhere in between.
